Toos is one of the most famous and historical cities of Khorasan Razavi province. The name of the city, Toos, reminds Ferdowsi more than others. It is located 35 kilometers northwest of Mashhad. The origin of the Toos can be found in the plain of Kashfrud, which is included in the province of Toos with several large cities and many villages of valleys. Size of the city is about 16500 km. The historic history of Toos dates back to the ancient period (2nd century AH). Some history of the city and its construction have been attributed to Jamshid Pishdadi. In Avesta, Toos has come to the name “Oru” and it is one of the sixteen holy lands in Vendidad. It is also said that history of Toos is related to Persian hero of Shahnameh, and introduce his name with the city. The Avesta and Shahnameh have been spoken about Toos. In none of the pre-Sasanian sources, Toos has not been seen, and all the cities of the northeast of the country have been listed as a state during this period. The name of the Toos can be seen among the resources of the Sasanian era. In Shahnameh, “Sam” has fought and dragged Drago near Kashfrud in the city of Toos. 0.zFerdowsi reports the assassination of Sassanid Yazddard in this city. Most people in the city are Muslims with a Shiite religion. Other points of interest near the city include the “Dome of Haroonye” and “Pag Town”.
